Workbook

A few of my favourite exercises and drawing games for you to play with!

Sit down with a sketchbook and pencil, close your eyes, listen.  Map - with your eyes closed - the noises you can hear.  Try to express the noise with the choice of mark you make; loud, sharp, subtle, static, moving.......

Close your eyes and feel around your face.  Try to draw a self portrait of your face with your eyes closed.
(beware - this exercise often results in a deep, inner self portrait if the conditions are right!)

Take a line for a walk.  Make a 360 degree drawing of what is in your eyeline.  Don't take the pencil off the paper.  Follow the lines you can see with your pencil.

Rip up an old drawing and rearrange it into a ground for another drawing.  See where it takes you.

Listen to a radio programme.  Try to make a series of marks to match the tone of voice or the speed of speech.  Work as fast as the talking.  Try not to care about the outcome just collect a vocabulary of different marks.
